2/2000–Present: Kefta Inc. San Francisco, USA

Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer.

Early stage startup, funded by Softbank Venture Capital.

Kefta is a leading provider of unique and highly flexible marketing automation solutions. Our powerful platform and scalable technology enables marketers across industries to mobilize, manage, cultivate and track cutting-edge marketing campaigns. Our array of customizable software products and hosting solutions dramatically lower user acquisition costs and increase retention levels, leading to improved marketing return on investment.

Started the company with two partners (both graduates of Harvard Business School), as the founder with the technology background.

Recruited the engineering team (14 engineers).

Defined the technology and led its implementation.

Adapted the product and technology to address altered market conditions, to a successful conclusion (acquisition by Acxiom Corp. in April 2007).

1999–2000 EuroNet Internet BV, Amsterdam, Netherlands

Dutch ISP, acquired by France Telecom in 1998, manages a national network with 26 POPs in the Netherlands, as well as an international backbone, with POPs in London, Brussels, Paris, Frankfurt, Washington and San Jose.

Technical director, Operations Manager, deputy to the CEO and interim CIO.

Management of a department with a 1999 budget of €5M in capital expenditures, €4.5M in operating expenses.

Launched "Wanadoo" in the Netherlands as part of France Telecom's European Internet strategy.

Built a full-fledged IS department within EuroNet.

Overhauled the technical platforms : service, network and IS.

Reorganized operations on a more industrial basis.

1996–1999 France Telecom Interactive (FTI), Paris, France

A division of France Telecom that operates "Wanadoo", the premier Internet Service Provider in France and second-largest in Europe (over 560.000 dialup, cable and ADSL subscribers as of 2/1/99 when I left the company, over 3 million now).

Deputy to the Vice-President of Engineering. Acting as Chief Technology Officer for the division.

Achievements include:

defining and implementing an architecture capable of scaling to an estimated 1 million subscribers in 1999. This includes the network architecture, the services platform (Web servers for our portal site, email…), the Business Support System (provisioning and billing, as the Engineering Department handles corporate IT development work), the Customer Care management system and the Operations Support System. The first phase was completed in August 97, the second in February 99)

setting up a project group to support Marketing in product definition and conduct technical and cost impact studies earlier in the product cycle.

The project's objective was to produce a prototype Internet Service Provider platform with electronic commerce capabilities, as a successor to the French Minitel system.

The project was successfully completed, on time (3 months) and within budget, in collaboration with Netscape Communications, with a total budget of $750.000 and a staff of 15 engineers.

Military service as instruction officer for the division, with rank of Second Lieutenant.

Responsible for managing training for all privates and NCOs in the division and military region, the largest in France (22 regiments)
